Potholes on the Parent Path

Posted by admin in Fun With Children

It is a sad situation when children are brought into the world by people who aren’t ready to be parents. I’ve seen many young girls end up pregnant only to drop their child into the laps of their parents or other relatives and then go on their merry way, carefree as if they are still children, which in many cases they are. These child-parents are often not ready nor willing to take on the responsibility of caring for the life they so thoughtlessly created. They want to go out with their friends and boyfriends so they just take for granted that their parents will babysit while they go party. And of course, you don’t have to pay grandparents to babysit. Grandparents love to watch the little ones. After all, isn’t that what they’re supposed to do?

In most cases the grandparents assume the responsibility for the care of their grandchildren which enables the parents to go on living as if nothing ever happened. The grandparents love their grandchildren and feel that someone has to take care of them. They feel not only love for the little ones but also obligation. This is understandable but what the grandparents may not realize is that if the parents of these children are not going to be willing to face up to their responsibility as long as their parents are going to do it for them.

Some of these young mothers don’t have jobs and some of the ones who do, certainly don’t want to waste their hard earned money on paying babysitters when they have unsuspecting relatives who feel guilty if they say no. What these people need to understand is that they are not saying no to the child but to the parents who’s responsibility it is to raise the child they conceived and brought into this world. Often the reasons given for needing a grandparent or relative to babysit are pitiful at best. I’ve heard the usual such as “I need to go to the store,” and I’ve heard some gems like “I have to cook dinner,” or I need to clean the house.” Have I stepped into another dimension? Come on, now. Get real! I never had such luxuries as shipping the kids off while I ran the vacuum cleaner or prepared a meal. Strangely enough, I recall going to the store with my kids in tow, all four of them. I know times have changed and this is the 21st century but don’t parents still parent?

I used to take pride in the appearance of my children. I always fixed my little girl’s hair and did my best to keep my boys clean. It really bothers me when I see young children running around in grimy clothes, no socks and no jacket on a rainy, cold day and the parents don’t even seem to care that the kids are coughing and their noses are constantly runny. And some times the parents aren’t even anywhere to be found. The other day, my son and I were in the car on the way to the store when two little children came running across the sidewalk. I held my breath fearing that these two little ones were going to run into the road. They couldn’t have been any older than three and five. I looked around for a parent, babysitter or some adult to be watching them but did not see an adult in sight.

In this day and age, there really is no need for those who don’t want to be parents to bear children. I’ve even seen one young woman end her unplanned pregnancy with abortion only to become pregnant again six months later. This is a clear example of simple irresponsibility. I know of another young woman who has had three abortions by the age of eighteen. She speaks lightheartedly of her past decisions with her view of abortion being nothing more than a ‘cure’ for pregnancy. I find the whole matter repugnant to say the least.

Pregnancy and parenthood are too often regarded with a nonchalant attitude. There are times when people have children for all the wrong reasons. For instance, couples who have a child with the intent to make a relationship work often find that it doesn’t. There are some young people who prove themselves quite responsible and make excellent parents but unfortunately this is not always the case. The amount of grandparents raising their children’s children seems to be steadily increasing. As I stated before, grandparents often feel obligated to their children and grandchildren. After all, someone has to take care of the baby but by assuming the parental role, the grandparents allow their grown children free reign in a field of irresponsibility.

The biggest misfortune that results from lack of parental maturity is that the children suffer. They are often shuffled around between households and family members. When this becomes long term there is a definite lack of stability that occurs in the lives of the children. I honestly know some children who spend more time in the car as their parents pick them up and drop them off than they do in the home. The point is that people should plan their families rather than deciding they don’t want children after they’ve already had them. All too often the situation boils down to wanting kids but not wanting to raise them. Along with the cute, cuddly newborn also comes dirty, smelly diapers, sleepless nights and a host of other responsibilities. Abortion is not a cure for pregnancy and dropping the kids off on Mom’s doorstep isn’t the ideal solution either. Real parents make sacrifices but the long term rewards are immeasurable.

What can you learn from a kiss?

Posted by admin in Web Of Technology

What’s in a kiss?

Terry Dashner…….Faith Fellowship Church PO Box 1586 Broken Arrow, OK 74013

Remember this slogan? “You could learn a lot from a dummy.” The slogan comes from a government, public service announcement (PSA) which flashes over radio, television, and the Public Square, with the goal of inculcating the lessons about seat-belt safety. The PSA has been streamed so many times that, upon hearing it, the general public immediately thinks of two crash dummies, putting themselves together after crash testing without seat-belts.

I guess it’s true. You may learn something from a dummy if presented in the right way. But for my brief topic of study, the question I raise is this: can you learn anything from a kisswhether presented by a king or a jester? I think so.

Remember the story of King David and his rebellious son, Absalom? The last sentence in II Samuel chapter 14 states, “And the king kissed Absalom.” (NIV) If you read the entire story, you discover that David’s kiss was a kiss of hopeful reconciliation between Absalom and him. But Absalom had other intentions and wanted nothing to do with repenting, and reconciling before his father. That’s a shame because it did not end well for the traitor.

As a matter of fact, Absalom did some kissing of his own. Under the auspicious shelter of his father, he greeted all at the city gates with a bow, a kiss, and these words, “If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that he gets justice.” (II Samuel 15: 4-6; NIV) Guess what? Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israelwith a kiss and a treasonous word of rebellion.

Allow me to fast-forward several centuries later to an upper room prepared for a last supper. Jesus has stooped to wash the disciples’ feet, even the one who will betray him to the enemy. Later that night, in a garden, the traitor comes with the temple guards to seize Jesus. He identifies Jesus by a kiss.

May I share something with you? A human is never more vulnerable than when he or she receives a kiss. Think about this. Before another human being may enter your personal space and kiss you, that person has come under close scrutiny by you, right? When you receive the kiss, you have no idea whether or not it’s genuine or benign. Only the person who gives the kiss knows.

Over the years, I’ve learned that compliments from others can be like kisses. Some compliments are genuine with the party “throwing” them, wanting nothing more than to express good will to another human being. But, I’ve also learned that some hand out “kisses” to promote a self-agenda. Maybe you’ve learned the same lesson.

I am resigned to this fact. As long as I live on this sin-tainted planet, I will never know the true intentions of another man’s heart until it is revealed. I will not despair though. Men are fallible; however, there is one man who is not. His name is Jesus. And He has kissed my heart with grace and proven Himself faithful to me, time and time again. I allow Him close, personal, space daily and receive His embrace with gratitude. And for the record, I am constantly checking my heart to make sure that the kisses I am giving Him are from a sincere heart of love and not a rebellious one.

Keep the faith. Stay the course. Jesus is coming again, soon.

Acupuncture Schools

Posted by admin in Travel Stuff

Slowly and steadily the use of Chinese medicine and acupuncture is gaining popularity in all parts of the world. Since President Nixon made his historical visit to China in 1972 and effectively opened the door from East to West, America has been undergoing an acupuncture craze.

Acupuncture is a vital component of the traditional Chinese medical system, wherein needles are inserted into the skin and underlying tissues, to treat an illness. A very ancient art, acupuncture has gained wide popularity as an alternative medicine over the past forty years. With such encouraging and promising results, the use of acupuncture has found a space not only in Chinese medical system and the developing countries, but also in developed nations like the US.

To spread this knowledge and education in the field of acupuncture, a number of acupuncture schools have opened up in different countries. The acupuncture schools aim at educating students; training them to be healers in the art, science and philosophy of acupuncture; and to be instructed in herbal and Oriental medicine.

The number of acupuncture schools in the United States has grown at a high rate since the creation of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) and the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in 1982. Acupuncture schools offer a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs for students seeking a career as an acupuncturist. Acupuncture school education and training is approximately 3,000 credit hours.

Attaining a professional license as an acupuncturist, after taking up one of the courses in acupuncture, is rewarding in many ways.

Acupuncture provides detailed information on Acupuncture, Acupuncture And Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture Schools, Acupuncture and Weight Loss and more. Acupuncture is affiliated with Aromatherapy Candles.

For Such a Time as This

Posted by admin in New Age + The Occult

“And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NIV).

Our oldest son died during the Christmas holidays. Since he chose to die, I decided to share with our four younger sons a verse that has had great meaning to me personally. A few days after his death I took them back to Chuck’s bedroom and asked them to sit with me on his bed. Then, after a silent prayer for wisdom to guide these tender little hearts, I tried to explain to them about God and His purposes for us. I told them that we are born neither too soon nor too late; that we are born at this time because God has purposes for us and no one else. We have jobs to do that no one else on earth can do.

There were hundreds of verses I could have chosen that might have been more relevant. I don’t know. But I still believe, years later, that the Holy Spirit prompted me to share this particular verse. Chuck’s death, especially the fact that he chose to give up what we think would have been a good life, had a profound impact on my blasé attitude about life and its mysteriousness and its urgency–and its preciousness!

I tried to explain to these bewildered gifts–suddenly I saw my treasured sons in a new light!–that God knows the right time and place for us to be born, and He wants us to make use of our talents and our strength right where we are and at this time. He doesn’t want us dreaming of other times and places and what we could have done there. It’s senseless, useless and hopeless.

These dear young men have gone on to caring and giving lives. They have happy marriages to wonderful ladies, and now we are grandparents. Life, that dear gift, goes on. How I thank God for our sons and daughters who choose to live and love and pass on these great gifts so others may live!

Mexican Living: A Disabled Man Speaks for Terri

Posted by admin in Activist

I am an incurably ill American male forced to leave America to afford the medical care I needed. I live in Mexico. I now live in a country where “pulling the plug” for whatever reason is illegal!

I am not terminally ill. I have a lifelong disability that will never get better. I am much like Terri Schiavo, the woman who the State of Florida killed because she had a lifelong, incurable disability. Notice, like me, Terri Schiavo was not terminally ill but handicapped. There is a difference!

Every handicapped person in America has to ask, “Am I next?”

Am I the next disabled person about whom, at some point in the future, someone will make a claim that I said something about the issue of life-and-death and a judge will believe it without the benefit of due process? Will someone come along without a preponderance of evidence (And should not there be a preponderance of evidence and not the word of one individual?) and have some judge some court somewhere order my death by starvation–Or by whatever means that is convenient to the court?

I wonder what the criteria will be. Will the courts be the ones who now determine whether you serve some usefulness to society? Who will define usefulness?

Moreover, I wonder why someone was not asking these questions:

Did Terri Schiavo tell anyone other than the man who stands to make a bundle of money from a malpractice suit that she did not want to be kept alive via a stomach tube? (He claims he has already spent the money on her care. I want to see that proof!)

Why is the court taking only her adulterous husband’s word on this issue of life-and-death? Is that a preponderance of evidence?

Can’t the court see that this man has some nefarious motives?

Have the allegations of spousal abuse been investigated fully?

Why didn’t her husband allow Terri, ever, to have physical therapy that might have improved her state?

Is any one aware that others, in so-called vegetative states, have awakened years later?

Can science dictate morality? Though science sometimes can tell us why something is, can it tell us what is right and what is wrong?

Something smelled fishy in this entire thingand it still does.

What is next? Will disabled Americans whose families tire of them be able to find a judge who will order their deaths too? On the other hand, perhaps we will be told too much money has been spent on us in disability pension payments and now it is time to check out of living.

You have used up your quota! Now it is time to die.

I do not offer this as an exaggeration but an honest question. Just what is next? Every disabled person should be asking this question.

I wonder if the judge who ordered Terri Schiavo’s death forgot, or ever knew, the words of Hubert H. Humphrey:

“It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped.”

My God, in heaven, what has America become?

Thank God, in heaven, I live in Mexico!

Diabetic Gains From Nutritious Whole Grains

Posted by admin in The Lifestyle Way

My mother was a diabetic and when she was diagnosed, it was called adult onset diabetes. Do you know why they changed the name to type 2? I’m afraid the sad truth is it can no longer be
called “adult,” because the deadly type 2 diabetes is now showing up in children.

Diabetes has been dramatically on the increase for the past century. Today about 23 million Americans are diabetic and one quarter of those are undiagnosed. Whereas people don’t
generally die of diabetes, they just go blind or lose their limbs, it often leads to heart disease. And heart disease is our biggest premature killer.

Native Americans, who at one time had no diabetes, now have the highest incidence in the world. What happened?
Traditionally, they had lived on an all natural, unrefined diet. Once they were moved to reservations, their only choice was a modern “white man’s diet” of refined foods. Since then, there’s been a huge jump in the incidence of Native American diabetes. Among the Pima Indians in Southwest Arizona, 40%
of the population are type 2 diabetics. Interestingly enough,
they’re eating many of the same foods that they were eating on their traditional diet. Only today, they’re using refined versions of those foods - refined corn products, refined sugars
and refined grains.

Although we’ve known this information for many years, a peer review study just published in this month’s American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has proven that whole grains, such as brown rice, oatmeal and whole wheat, can help protect people from diabetes.

The team of researchers from Simmons College, Harvard Medical School, followed the eating habits of 43,000 men (ages 40 to 75) for about 12 years. Although they all started out healthy, nearly 3% developed diabetes in just over a decade. What were they
eating?

Those who ate the least amount of whole grains had a 60% higher incidence of developing type 2 diabetes than those eating the highest level of whole grains. But there’s even more evidence. And, this is a real shocker. Obese men who ate the highest amount of whole grains, and were also physically active, developed 52% less type 2 diabetes, even though they were overweight.

Two other recent studies focusing on women and whole grains confirmed these same Harvard findings: whole grains can help protect from diabetes and possibly other degenerative diseases.

Why?

Whole grains are low glycemic carbohydrates. This means lower blood sugar and less insulin production. But refined grains are high glycemic carbohydrates that more than double blood sugar levels. This causes an insulin surge to clear sugar out of the blood. After a while, the body is no longer capable of handling this blood sugar onslaught. That’s when a person becomes a type 2 diabetic. Then high blood sugar can increase the risk of diabetic related heart disease, kidney failure and blindness.

The Harvard research team’s conclusion to this study was to recommend that people eat more whole grains. They said, “Whole grain products” have “the potential to reduce substantially the incidence of type 2 diabetes and possibly other chronic diseases when sustained over time.”

Makes a lot of sense to me. Whole grains are in their natural,
nutritious form, just the way they were meant to be. You see, “It’s not nice to try and fool Mother Nature.” And, in her never-to-be-humble opinion, she doesn’t mind telling us,
“I told you so!”

How To Get The Best Secured Loan In UK?

Posted by admin in Loans + Cash Info

A best-secured loan in UK means different things for different people. Some call it the ‘best’ when they get the amount they want in totality. Some feel that they have got the best deal when they feel the interest rates on their loan are the lowest. Others call it the best when they get a super deal on fees and repayment schedules. So, the perception of best-secured loan is dependent on the borrower’s requirements. But the common denominator in all definitions is that the borrowers want the amount desired with minimum interest rates, minimum hassles, maximum flexibility in repayments and zero overhead costs.

Since, the borrower wants the best deal from the various offers available in the market, the only way left with him is to look at each offer individually and compare it with his requirements. Thus, by a sincere comparison, he will be able to know the pros and cons of each of the offers. Many things bother us daily, consume a large part of our memory and exhaust us at the end of the day. So, it will be difficult to keep track of all the offers mentally and it will be better if the borrower writes down everything on a paper to remember the facts exactly and arrive on a correct decision.

A collateral guarantees a best-secured loan in UK, which most probably will be your home or home equity. Many lenders also take up the car or any other asset as the collateral but the house and property gets the most favor by lenders in this regard. Depending on the value of collateral the lenders are willing to offer large sums ranging from £5000 to £ 75000 and even more.

The APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is what will affect your repayments the most. It is the interest charged on the loan. Go for a fixed APR and shop around for the lowest rates on APR so that you have to pay the minimum total amount to the lender. Although every lender is legally obliged to familiarize the borrower with the effective APR and other costs involved in taking up the loan, but many lenders in an effort to fill up their coffers put some hidden costs veiled by fine prints, which increase the loan cost tremendously. To shield himself from such unpleasant experiences the borrower should ask clearly about all the fees associated with the loan, and get it documented. He should get the credit agreement scrutinised by his own legal expert so that he gets an unambiguous view on the ‘fine prints’. The borrower should also look for a low prepayment penalty, which will also reduce the overall cost of the secured loan.

The hassles associated with the process of getting a Best secured loans in UK dissuade many borrowers. They find, filling up the multi-page applications, answering endless questions, erratic meeting with the officials, incising enquiries on their credit history and bank balances too time consuming and obstructive for their comfort. The solution to these impending problems is to look for a lender who offers online application and completes the process with minimum documentation and a minimum encroachment on time and privacy of the borrower. An online lender is also favorably positioned to provide the best secured loans in UK because of the minimal operational costs and the shear speed of operations.

Strict adherence to the repayment schedule by the borrower will also improve his/ her experience about the loan. Lenders love people who are prompt on repaying the installments. They often reward such behavior, monetarily or by offering some gifts. This also shows positively on the credit history of a borrower and things become promising for him. All this goodwill, takes an ugly turn if the borrower breaks the repayment schedule repeatedly and becomes a nuisance for the lenders. The borrower should be prepared to bear the consequences in such a situation.

Using The Popularity of Celebrities and Currrent Events to Promote Your Business

Posted by admin in Public Relations

In this article, we want to explore the idea of using the popularity of celebrities and current event (news) topics to help market any internet business.

The Idea

Celebrities and news events are not only popular topics, they are also popular “keywords” in the major search engines. Thousands upon thousands of users everyday search the engines to find the latest info.

The idea is to build mini sites that target this market.

We call these “pop surfer” sites.

It sounds a bit far fetched at first, but with a little strategy, these “pop surfers” can help sell our products - NO MATTER WHAT WE SELL, or at least generate a decent amount of qualified traffic.

To get an idea of the type of traffic, have a look at these sites:

http://buzz.yahoo.com

http://50.lycos.com

http://www.wordtracker.com

http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html

Look at the terms in these lists. I’m sure you recognize most of them, as they are an indication of what and who is “happening” right now. Also, keep in mind these sites (Yahoo, Google, Lycos, etc.) are among the most visited sites on the net.

The “Pop Surfer” Mini Site

The first step is to develop a “pop surfer” mini site (or sites - the more the better). It doesn’t have to be the greatest or prettiest site ever created. Don’t put as much work into it as you would your primary site. The key to these sites is to get the popular names and terms on the page so the search engines can find and spider them.

When developing your “pop surfer” page, keep in mind that you want a page that will 1) get into the search engines, and 2) grab the pop surfers’ attention while they are searching for their favorite artist, news story, etc.

The Strategy

After we have our “pop surfer” mini site(s) built and listed in the engines, how do we use it get customers to our businesses?

There are two models that we will call the Indirect model and the Direct model. Each approach has it’s own advantages and uses. In one model we “indirectly” target the “pop surfers”, and in the other model we “directly” target them.

The Indirect Model

This model gives us the most qualified visitors. In this model, we utilize the power of traffic “exchanges”. After we start getting our share of “pop surfer” traffic, we use the exposure ratio from these “exchanges” to drive qualified, targeted visitors to our primary business site.

This works because exchanges allow us to target our visitors. When signing up for an exchange you are usually asked what category you want exposure in. They often give you a list with such categories as Health and fitness or Business Opportunities. This gives us control over where we want our primary sites’ information viewed.

Some exchanges have a 1:1 ratio where one exposure on your page is worth one exposure on someone else’s page. Others use different ratios such as 2:1 which gives two exposures on your page for one exposure on someone else’s.

There are several types of exchanges. The more popular ones are:

Banner Exchanges, which gives banner exposures in exchange for placing other banners on our site.

Exit Exchanges display your whole website, usually as a pop under window when a visitor leaves your site, in exchange for your site being displayed (as an exit pop under window) on someone else’s site.

The most powerful, however, are:

Opt In list exchanges. These are special, because in every marketing circle, the number one rule for promoting your online business is to obtain an opt in list of subscribers. Opt in exchanges deliver the most targeted, and qualified visitors we can get with the exchange model.

How they work is when someone enters or leaves your site, a list of newsletter, or business opportunity sign up forms are generated in a small unobtrusive window. When that happens, your newsletter or biz-opportunity is listed on someone else’s website - IN THE TARGETED CATEGORY THAT YOU CHOSE when you signed up.

Put the exchange code(s) on your “pop surfer” sites, and take advantage of the traffic.

The Direct Model

The direct model is more of an indirect approach in that we may not necessarily use the “pop surfers” for our primary business but we can still profit from them.

How?

One way is by utilizing Pay Per Click. Not pay per click in the sense that we bid for our sites’ exposure in a search engine, but Pay Per Click in the sense that we place listings on OUR sites and GET PAID for having them there. Every time someone clicks a result in your page, you get a percentage of the bidding amount for that click. If you use pay per click strategically, it can be very profitable.

Merchant affiliate programs work well also. Amazon.com, for example, sells books, music, toys, and more. They let you place their products on your website, and you get a percentage when someone buys from you.

Several other merchants work the same way. Do a search for merchants who sell CDs, books, video, toys, or clothing, and have an affiliate program. There are many out there.

Finally, you don’t only have to look for affiliate programs. If you have a business or product that you think might cater to popular culture, target the “pop surfers” directly!! For instance, if you print T-shirts, you could probably sell some with hottest stars’ faces on them.

Do your research for your pop surfer page topic. You can bet that if a celebrity or topic has recently made news, the traffic is sure to follow.
