Is Blogging Only For Money?

Posted by admin in Blog News

When one gives a quick look at the articles written on blogging, the common theme seems to be making money from blogging. The authors invariably talk about adsense and how we can make money from blogs. Is blogging only for making money? Did blogs begin with that idea? Are we losing the direction somewhere?

A blog gives an opportunity to everyone to express himself/herself on the Internet. We feel that we are sharing our deepest thoughts with other members of the world. Blogging is bringing the world nearer to each other like never before. In certain cases, a blog is a great therapy for venting out anger, frustration and other negative feelings, which can otherwise damage the psyche. Blogging was never started with the object of making money on the Internet.

Imagine the scenario when the majority of blogs will somehow try to collect content from different sources and hope that their ad gets clicked. Is that not wasting of quality time? Will such blogs contribute to the Internet at all? Who will visit such blogs? Everyone is busy building a blog that makes money, so why should he/she visit other blogs?

A blog can contribute to very lively discussion. A blog can be a great platform to meet people and talk. A blog is a great way to help budding talents show case their work to the world. Let us not make blogs only as a money making tool.

A Quick and Effective way to Create a Blog Post or Article for your Web Site

Posted by admin in Blog News

Here is a very useful article writing strategy just devised, for those of you who are starting off with your Blogs and Web Sites. If you seem to be stuck for content and are suffering from Writers’ block then a subscription to Google Alerts is a very good way of giving you the insider slant on any topic you choose. In your own particular field you should have a good think about the keywords that reflect your own special niches and then create an “Alerts” account with Google for these.

Every morning in your inbox you will have a large selection of hot breaking news flashes from around the world that you can digest and then turn into an article or post or even a series of articles.

Be careful about the choice of keywords you select since you may end up getting mountains of news clips which have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with your subject. This is the down side to this strategy …it takes a little while to get a handle on it and fine tune your “Alert” keyword selection but believe me it will provide you with insights into your own particular field that you missed or were completely unaware of. Of course the beauty of this system is that it is targetted to your specific needs as opposed to getting a pile of RSS feeds that while they may be very interesting in themselves, only serve to distract you from your main objective.

As a person who has been known to suffer from Information Hyper-overload …I can tell you that you need to be much more disciplined with this approach and we all know that Discipline is the key to many of the goals we need to achieve in life be they Personal or Business. Implementing this system would make a really achiveable Goal for a Web Site Owner who needs fresh content frequently. Here are my Top Ten Tips to getting the best out of this strategy.

(1) Read the Alerts before you do anything else when you open your e-mail inbox in the morning.

(2) Delete immediately the ones that are unrelated.

(3 Read quickly the ones that interest you by clicking the link and decide then and there which clip you will use for a future article or post. You don’t have to then and there decide which article you are going to write today.Just work the system.

(4) Copy and paste the article clip into a Word file with Date and Headline of your choice and file in a pre setup Folder for that particular topic.

(5) If you don’t have time at that moment to draft your article that’s no problem; you have an ever growing file of Content Magic that you can refer to again and again. Some marketers refer to this as a swipe file.

(6) Keep a separate file that is at the top of your Inbox Folders for immediately filing those e-mails that you are going to keep for future use, so you can easily access this in an instant without trawling through the minefield of other folders to find what you are looking for.

(7) If you have several niches or topics that you write about then you need of course to keep each clip in its correct sub folder.

(8)Sometimes I find that I might get stuck into a rather deeper exploration of the particular topic than previously envisaged so I would part write the article and come back to it later.

(9) One final point…if you want to keep cranking out fresh content and blog posts regularly you should discipline yourself to using this system first thing, before you open the rest of your e-mail inbox every morning. Opening the e mail will just distract you. Get the article (from your previously filed clips) written and posted before you get stuck into that wonderful experience of the ritual opening of the Inbox and you won’t be wishing at the end of the day that you had written more.

(10) Just do all of the above every day without fail!

One Article a day will put you up there with the most prolific of writers, web site owners and Bloggers and will get you much more traffic to your sites as time goes on when visitors notice your regular output

Remember the purpose of this exercise is to inform your readers and subscribers and get them to recognise you as the one with whom they should do business!

Why Corporate Identity is a Very Powerful Communication Branding Tools

Posted by admin in Brands

The world of business is a very competitive one with each executive competing with the other to get the best of sales, profits and customers for their business. This means that all businesses interested in becoming successful have to concentrate in developing their corporate image and identity to improve in their business. Corporate identity is actually the image or identity by which the business wants to be perceived by their customers or the physical manifestation of the brand.

Corporate identity is very much achieved by the brand building and marketing strategies of the company. So how actually is a brand built? It is done through the help of branding tools like logo designs, business cards and brochures. Brochures and advertisements are the most powerful communication branding tools as you get to distribute them to anyone around your locality. you can make brochures describing your company, it’s specialties and services to the public, thus making them aware of your presence! Once more people get to know about your services and facilities, more people come to you to try them out, thus making your company a better success!

It should be made sure that all marketing communication material has the corporate logo on it, thus enhancing your credibility as a professional enterprise. The reason for the need of all marketing communication having a corporate logo is that this is the thing that will be handed over to the public as an advertisement. You hand out business cards for potential clients for them to remember you and your company, there will be incidents wherein you have to send letters to different companies. If you send these letters through letters using letterheads with your company logo, the recipient company will remember you better for future correspondence and dealings. Therefore, it can be seen that to enhance the corporate identity, the brand has to be enhanced or built. We do this through marketing strategies, thus incorporating that corporate identity is a very powerful communication-branding tool.

When getting the corporate logo done, it is best to have it done by a professional, as logos made by amateurs may ruin the credibility of the business in no time, while a logo done by a professional logo designer helps to add value to the business. A professional logo designer is not only a graphic designer, he is one who has idea about your branding and positioning of business. He is one who creates a logo for you based on your requirements to exude the nature of your business and to meet all modes of your usage of the logo, on web, print, TV commercials or in a mixture of all of this. It should be remembered that logos and marketing materials are very important parts of a company’s brand building strategy. Logo designs are such an important communication tool for the corporate as it can make people perceive your company to be a large corporate house, when in fact; only one man runs it!

RSS to Blog Pro - A 6-month Review

Posted by admin in Blog News

Background
Search engines are particularly interested in websites with constantly updated, relevant content. Websites that appear static without a supply of fresh content may be viewed as dormant and in their drive to provide the latest, most relevant search results to users, search engines may rank such a website lower than a website that is updated regularly.

What Is It?
RSS to Blog Pro is a fully automated blog posting tool offering self-updating websites. It’s a PHP script that is installed on a single web hosting account. From this centralised installation, multiple blogs can be maintained with fresh content from various sources. Also available is an earlier, non-pro version, which has the same basic functionality, but requires a separate install for each blog it maintains.

What Problem Does It Solve?
Adding fresh - and importantly, relevant - content to websites can be a resource consuming task. Either you spend time finding and creating new content or you pay someone to do it for you. Without fresh content, your websites can appear stagnant and drop off the search engines radar. This impacts your website rankings in search results and ultimately has a detrimental effect on any free traffic coming from the search engines. If your websites rely on search engine traffic then this can mean their downfall.

What Are The Benefits?
RSS to Blog Pro tackles the problem of needing to regularly update website content by automating the whole process from finding relevant content based upon keywords that you provide through to posting content to your website blog. In the eyes of search engines, updating a website with irrelevant content isn’t nearly as good as having relevant content. The tighter your niche, the better chances you have of ranking higher as you’ll be competing with a smaller number of websites. Using a scattergun approach to website content can mean you end up competing with websites across a large number of niches.

If you’re building content websites with the aim of earning an AdSense income then you’ll know that the ads shown are dependant upon the surrounding content on your webpages. Irrelevant content results in ads that are irrelevant to your website visitors, which means they’ll have no interest in clicking on them and your generated income will be poor.

Features

  • Supports multiple blog types including WordPress, Blogger Blogs, Movable Type, Type Pad, Live Journal and MSN Spaces.
  • Keywords and RSS feeds can be specified for automatic content generation or you can supply your own content.
  • Posting to your blogs can be scheduled at random intervals e.g. once or twice a day so that posting appears natural.
  • There are no ‘footprints’ to identify the content as being automatically generated.
  • Log records are kept so you can see exactly what has been posted and to where.
  • Built-in ping functionality for blog and ping.
  • A single installation will post to an unlimited number of blogs.
  • Regular updates.
  • User support forum.
  • Two tier affiliate programme offering 40% commission to the top level and 10% for any sales from affiliates you recruit.

My Experience With RSS to Blog Pro
Since August 2005, I’ve been using RSS to Blog Pro on an increasing number of blogs in various niches. I’m pleased to be able to say that my income from AdSense has increased month upon month since then. With the software installed on my virtual private server (VPS), I currently manage around 50 blogs, posting relevant new content every day or two. I’d recommend that you don’t install RSS to Blog Pro onto a shared server because if you’re updating a large number of websites or you’re running the script frequently (every couple of minutes) then your host is likely to take a dim view on it. Considering how inexpensive and how much more reliable a VPS is to operate there just isn’t any reasonable justification for risking a shared server. A VPS is like having your own server, completely isolated from any other peoples websites so you can’t affect them and they can’t affect you. There is the exception of disk IO, but that isn’t something that should be of any real concern.

The issue of relevancy is really what makes the difference between an effective auto content generation tool and one that will never do anything for your bottom line. I can’t stress it enough; without relevant content, search engines won’t be able to categorise your niche and won’t be able to rank you fairly amongst your peers. That means you won’t do well in searches in your subject area. It also could mean your website will serve ads for tennis equipment when your niche is dog care. Visitors looking for information about dog care are highly unlikely to be interested in tennis equipment when they come to your website because it’s not something which is relevant to their needs at that time.

There’s no doubt that this helps to keep those websites looking fresh and my website stats show a constant stream of visits to my blog pages each month. And of course, lots of targetted visitors and lots of targetted content means a lot of clicks on targetted ads!

Support-wise, Michelle (creator of RSS to Blog Pro) has answered my email queries promptly and there’s an active user forum for peer support. Michelle also visits the forum to provide assistance although some queries can take a couple of days for a response, however the user base, support forum and software is mature enough to be able to cope with almost every common question a new user might have.

Fortunately, the software is easy to install and set-up so you can expect to be running within an hour or two.

One feature that I haven’t used is the ability to ping blog directories from within RSS to Blog Pro. The reason for this is that if I pinged these websites for every post made to each of my blogs then I’d actually end up pinging up to 50 times a day from the same domain (the domain on which RSS to Blog Pro is installed). Rather than risk being blacklisted for pinging too much and hogging the resources of the directories, I use the ping facility from with my WordPress blog software instead so that the individual pings come from the individual domains. Again, this will appear to be a lot more natural and it also helps RSS to Blog Pro to work more efficiently by decoupling some of the work away from it.

Conclusion
After 6 months of constant usage, I’m pretty happy with RSS to Blog Pro’s performance. and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is wanting to have self-updating websites that attract targetted traffic. Care needs to be taken when selecting a host for the script, but once installed, operation of the script is simple and reliable. An excellent script in the toolbox of AdSense earners and affiliate marketers alike.

Speech on Branding from a Franchisor Founder

Posted by admin in Brands

I was asked today by a group of students; What do you feel is the best way to build brand name and why? And what significance do you feel are relevant to a strong corporate identity?

Well obviously this is a group of marketing students. And it almost sounded as if I was being tested on an essay question. My answer will differ from those you maybe use to hearing. That is fine, but I am right. They may also be right and it may not be a black and white issue in all markets, sectors or areas. Here is some of what I know in relation to building brand name.

I would like to say a few words on this subject, which I feel of important. For instance the universal sign for a barbershop, the candy cane striped pole, for happiness the Belgium born happy face. But let us look deeper. In the grocery store on the Soda pop isle, look at it from the distance let us say the end of the row. Let us say you want a citrus soda? We all know that drinks that taste like citrus have green color bottles, Yet the appropriate color would be yellow or even orange, if you were to think of it. Some use these combos. Orange is for Orange soda, Yellow with green would be lemon type soda. Green for Mountian Dew and all the copy type generic sodas. Red obviously for cola. But why? Red is the color of blood not soda, and green is not necessarily the color of Mountain dew, that would really be crystal clear. Yet green tint and die coloring is added for effect, why to create brand identity. Has nothing to do with anything else. 7-up is clear yet the bottles were green. Then Mountain Dew came along and simply used this color theme. They used the other brand to build their identity.

Pizza Hut buildings are all the same, so are IHOPS and McDonalds restaurants. Even if they were to close a store you can always tell what use to be a Hubble House, Wendy’s, Der Wienersnietzel, or Blockbuster store. Why? Brand identity. But colors and brand are also important. Think about the bear companies they almost have to have the cans gold or silver or at least some showing. Coors, Miller, Bud, but also Mickey’s (yuk), Red Dog, Sapporo, but why those. Why not, why recreate the customer’s perception. The customer wants everything in their perspective, they want order, but why? It is a chaotic world and some postulate that chaos is the only given in the random order of the universe, and that the only thing constant is change, yet the consumer buys what they are familiar with? This that go against this familiarity concept, must spend money to change customer perception. A risky ordeal and if they succeed? No problem, some one will copy that theme and cash in on the progress made and the marketing dollars spent.

Why do I as a Car Washer submit these facts to a bunch of hungry knowledge seeking students? It is our job at WashGuys (my company) to create brand identity, We have, we are, we will. What do you pay for when you buy a franchise? You pay for brand identity and future growth in customer recognition of that brand. Sometimes with a small franchisor, (using the franchising industry due to the many examples and my familiarity on the subject), that can be risky and it is one topic that is often discussed in academia, yet few really understand it as well as franchisor.

It is a current trend of corporate identity people to create an image that brings with it thoughts of the conditions needed to affect a customers desire to buy. So a logo created need to instill reliability and honesty and strength in a Phone company or a bank. In a tech company; state of the art, innovation and vision. In a sports shoe company; winning, comfort, effortless versatility and power. There maybe other reasons but let us look at the logos for AT&T, Nike, Addias, Silicon Graphics, Apple Computer, etc. Think of all the symbols you know like Coca Cola, Levis, California Cheese, Starbucks, Kinkos, Frito Lays, etc. What do these brand names need to retain customer base and extend market mix. If they are too limiting they lose and if they are too diverse they do not hit their intended audience. Band names; some many of them remember and they for the most part achieve their objectives.

Frito Lays logo tends to promote longevity in the market place, your grandparents ethics, reliability. Coca Cola Classic says it all, An American Tradition, precisely what the company wants it to say. This is one reason the New Coke failed, people drink coke because it is a tradition and it is a coke sometimes even if it is a Pepsi or RC Cola. Often our customers call the people who wash their cars “The Car Wash Guys”, yet it likely may be Jose’s Mobile Wash in Albuquerque, Schmit’s Detailing in Couer D Alene ID, Winslow’s Washing Service in Boston, Chang’s Car Wash in South City San Francisco area, Fidel’s Fine Finishes in Miami, Jacques Car Care in Quebec, Bernies Beverly Hills Detailing, or even Paquito’s Truck Wash in El Paso. Hey stop laughing, they do not have brand name we do. We win again. The more cars and trucks they wash and detail the more famous we get, because we own the most recognitzed name and the name which has become figures of speech. Gotta love brand name recognition. Lord knows I do and you know what? That is right you can say whatever you want, but we are winning that brand war. Even the FTC attempted to increase our brand name by having us interviewed by Forbes, Business Week, WSJ, USA Today, Business Journals all over the country, when competitors could not beat us in the market place and complained to the government. Every time your brand is written about, spoken about, promoted, publicized, advertised, you win. We certainly know what we are doing. Yet the rest of the industry lacks any brand identity at all, as a matter of fact the attempts are even poorly engineered from a academic standpoint. Simonize Car Wash, uses an old brand name not popular with most of its clientele, Mace changed its name and was unable to capitalize significantly on its efforts. WOW-Wash-on-wheels did not do it. Spaklewash? No, Ziebart? Not really, what is Ziebart? A Zebra on the wall in a painting? Imagine the cost of promoting nothingness into a brand name?

Imagine being a franchisee of a system and being forced to use a name that is nothing. I think that Yahoo, had a better chance. Yahoo is a yell of euphoria. Like in the beginning, Yahoo, I am cruising the Internet. So how did the Car Wash Guys come to be? Well this is interesting. One day washing cars in Westlake Ca, I went to an office as I had gone into every week for a year. The lady at the front desk said. The car wash guys are here. Our name was at the time Aero-Auto Wash. Signifying that we washed cars and aircraft. That was our two specialty niches back then, yet we washed other things, we were known for these. What she was meaning to say to the rest of the 500-employee office on the intercom that day was that the guys who wash cars, me and three workers were there again at the prescribed time. Each week same announcement. Eventually people would say Hey it is the car wash guy. And Hey I said “why fight it?” It was a few months later that I had heard the same announcement several times at other offices some small, some large, some over the Public Address System and some just yelled it over the counter to the small staff of my potential or weekly wash customers. Even more interesting was that eventually the checks made out to my company said things like Wash Guy, The Car Wash Guys, Wash man. So that is when I decided that before someone looked at the name the check was made out to at the bank, I better get that DBA. I did, but before that I had to hide those checks that were not made out to Aero Auto Wash in the middle of the stack so the teller would not see them. Eventually the checks started to say all different things.

One said the Car Wash Gays, which we were not. Car Wash, all kinds of stuff. So we said hey the most common thing people say is; “The Car Wash Guys are here.” So we started to put that saying on the trucks and then we officially changed the name to the customer’s perception of who we were. We are the Car Wash Guys or Car Wash Gals and we own both Federal Trademarks. They are undisputed and we do enforce our brand rights. Sometime later another company was formed called the Good Guys, electronic retailer. Then people occasionally made the mistake and made the check out to the Good Guys. Wow, I knew we had won the brand name war in that area. The Good Guys, sub consciously that is what people thought of our clean-cut crews and uniformed service. We had made it. They thought of our fundraising efforts as Good, our team as Good Guys and we washed cars. That is miraculous. We know take what we have learned to any market and immediately establish brand identity. And we are growing in size and numbers. We always win the brand war. Perhaps it is because no one else has as many units in as many states as us or that the cost to create that recognition is the reason. Perhaps no one in this industry knows what we know about the customer or that they do not care.

Maybe they are just lazy, stupid, incompetent or bullheaded to think that a name like Bubbles, Sunshine, Dicks Car Wash, Car Spa, Dr. Car Wash is where it is at. The car washes, which just say “car wash” may actually have an advantage in that they have no identity at all. Yet that is easily arguable, if you looked at our rise to power in various regions in the 1990s.

Our company has been called by our critics and competition the McDonalds of The Car Wash Industry, The Wal-Mart of Car Washing, low price leader, usually in a derogatory since, yet it is by far a compliment to the Brand name we are building, it will increase its value to us and decrease their market share. The customer is calling us the good guys, the convenient choice, a better mousetrap, a time saver, a good deal, a cool business, a lifesaver. WOW, sometimes it gets heavy, when a customer tells you, Oh thank you, how can I ever repay you, you are a gods sent. Sometimes you want to say Hey Chill Out Lady, All I Did Was Wash Your Car, but that is inappropriate, so you just smile and graciously accept the large tips. Ever wonder why Starbucks puts out a tip jar? With every car you build brand name and goodwill, one car at a time, yet that critical mass theory is also real, in that once you become a household topic, the exponential exposure is intense. Who can we thank?

We can thank careful planning, strategy, customer service, community goodwill, belief in what we do and ever motion we make. It is not luck building brand name. Far from what many believe. Ben and jerry drove around the country in a damn beat up motor home delivering free ice cream to every group they could find. Luck. Yah right, tell them that. Hopefully as you go about your business this week you will begin to understand some of these observations in the Real World and perhaps you already have? Are you on a Dell, HP, IBM, Apple Computer right now? Are you wearing New Balance, Addidas or Nike Shoes? Think about it?

Why is that so hard to see from the perspective of a college student who wears name brand clothes, wears a name brand watch, eats at name brand establishments and drinks a lot of name brand beer, when they can afford it? It appears that until you live brand name from the business side you cannot fully understand it. Likewise I feel and have personally witnessed former Professors who run large companies fail to capitalize on their brands. People like Service Master’s President, straight out of what I consider a top business school and a company doing billions a year in sales, but in my humble opinion should be doing 150-200 Billion per FY. I cannot tell you how many companies make obvious mistakes with their brand name, based on advise from experts, advertising agencies and academia, which in my opinion is always looking back, and has not a clue how to change the market direction midstream and take advantage of brand name value in opportunities right before their eyes. We will not allow ourselves at The Car Wash Guys to miss opportunities within our reach when they meet the criteria needed to win against the competition in the market sector or deliver the desired results to the consumer.

I suggest you watch such trends in your company and offer suggestions or use this knowledge to make strategic decisions which will propel you company from good to great or help consumers believe you are a company that was built to last.

How to Use Blog Exchanges

Posted by admin in Blog News

Traffic exchanges and blog traffic exchanges are a way to expose your blog or site to traffic by visiting other blogs and sites. I have looked at many such exchanges and selected what I though to be the best of these to see what sort of traffic I could bring to my site.

I signed up with four blog exchanges and one traffic exchange. There are quite a few traffic exchanges out there but I found many of them to be, well to put it mildly a waste of time. These exchanges were mostly auto surf exchanges where amusingly enough the visitors were not encouraged to actually look at the sites they visited.

The idea behind the exchanges I chose to test where that you visited other sites and blogs in the network and in exchange the webmasters of other sites visited you. The idea is simple and should be an easy way to bring traffic in. The list of these sites can be found at http://www.blogtonomy.com/blog-and-traffic-exchanges.php

I have been using these sites for several weeks and I think I now have enough data to come to some reasonable conclusions about using exchanges in order to generate traffic to your site.

Does it generate traffic?

You can get traffic pretty much straight away as some of the sites give you some credits for joining, but most of the traffic needs to be generated by you visiting other sites in the network. How much traffic you get will depend on how long you spend visiting other sites, on average I found that you could get about 40 visits in return for about an hours surfing.

The catch

This is probably the easiest and quickest way to get traffic to your site or blog. After looking at the traffic being sent from these sites I noticed that not many of the visitors went beyond the first page. This is not really surprising as, like you, most of the visitors are webmasters trying to generate traffic to there own sites.

I would conclude that as a starting point for getting traffic and for testing new pages on your site then this can be a useful tool. The audience will be mostly untargeted and so probably not interested in what you have to offer and therefore probably the hardest type of visitor entice into making a longer visit or returning for a later visit.

If your site or blog is more targeted towards traffic generation and promotion then you may get a better response from the visitors. I would recommend setting up a landing page especially for the visitors from these sites so you can offer them something they are likely to be interested in. It would be worth investing some of your time in experimenting with this sort of traffic to see if it works for you. You can always dismiss it later if you find it is not working for you.

Literacy In The United States Is Declining - Is That Good Or Bad?

Posted by admin in Brands

In an illiterate world, who will want to buy books,
e-books, magazines and newspapers?

Reading is indisputably in decline, which upsets or
pleases people, depending upon one’s viewpoint. In the
USA, we’ve suffered a 10% decline in literacy from 1982
to 2002.

The data are clear-people are becoming less literate,
preferring not to learn at all or to learn in other ways–hearing, visual, and touch.

Brian Tracy reports that half of all high school graduates and
one-quarter of all college graduates in the USA never read
another book after graduation.

Moreover, 70% of adults have not been in a bookstore in at least
five years.

“Text,” some sneer, is an “ancient learning technology” whose time is up. (It may be ancient, but it’s certainly not passe. The original word “text” means to “weave”–weaving newly-read information into your mental database of what you’ve read previously.)

As an avid speedreader who doesn’t watch TV or DVD’s or CD’s
or use electronic learning devicesexcept, of course, for the
Internet-I deplore the decline in reading and writing
proficiency.

The academic case against reading has six points:

1. We are pre-programmed to store, retrieve and
communicate information by speech.

2. Because of our pre-programming, we are driven to
develop technologies to communicate by speech. (Sounds
good to me–so far).

3. Younger people in electrically developed countries
reject “text” as the “technology of choice.” (My
Assumption: that’s because all too many are slow readers, and
slow reading is about as pleasant as having a root canal.)

Speed reading lessons and much practice will correct this problem and make reading enjoyable to anyone. So, why not learn how to be a speedreader? Why not teach others?

4. 80% of the world’s population is functionally
illiterate. (But why should it stay that way?)

5. “Screenagers,” academics muse, are able to deftly
and “seamlessly weave sounds, words and images
into an integrated mosaic” in their minds.

(If that’s really a skill, it’s a nice skill. But you cannot
logically conclude that having this skill renders
reading unnecessary).

6. The Internet breaks down boundaries and creates
an instant global information system. (I agree. The Internet
has made me a globalist. There’s lots of good stuff to read on
the Internet, so I’m glad to be a speed reader, too).

My rebuttal against the logic-challenged case against
literacy and reading is, as follows:

1. Information is doubling and tripling every few years. You
need to speed read, even if you use digital media as well, to
keep up with the avalanche of new information and prevent
your personal obsolescence.

As Brian Tracy says, “to earn more, you have to learn more.”

We all need to read more and read much faster, which provides
greater comprehension and reading enjoyment.

Tracy says that “we should make every minute count.” In addition
to reading regular reading, I agree with Tracy and Zig Ziglar that you should always listen to audio teaching media while driving. Zig calls that “Automobile University.”

The American Automobile Association (AAA) says that Americans
drive an average of 12,000 to 25,000 miles per year, spending 500 to 1,000 hours (the equivalent of two full university semesters).

You should attend Automobile University daily as you
drive, rather than listen to music or talk shows.

Speed reading is a far quicker way to learn than viewing and
listening to videos, CD’s and DVD’s–which I consider
a boring, time-wasting way to learn, if exactly the
same reading material is available instead.

Why not speed read something in 5 to 10 minutes
instead spending 45 minutes learning the same stuff
on digital media?

Remember, every minute counts.

2. The case against reading fails to prove that it
should be minimized or dismissed. Rather, the case
against reading extols the alternatives only.
Therefore, as a logical argument, the case
against reading self-destructs. It’s a house of
cards.

It’s too bad that some academics never studied
formal logic. Obfuscation is not a manifestation of
high intelligence nor does it cover up illogical views.

Be ready to use technology that will allow you to speak
online to listeners anywhere– This includes things like
teleseminars and webinars.

3. Put pressure on public schools and politicians not
to spend billions and billions of dollars with so little
literacy to show for it.

Are You Content With Your Newsletter Open Rate? Step it Up with 5 No-Fail Ezine Creation Tips

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Five hundred subscribers sounds pretty good for a newbie marketer, right? Oh, but what if only 200 are actually opening your mail? You’ve got to come up with solutions that really work, or the painstaking work you do on your newsletter is all for naught. “Step it up” for a major improvement in open rate… with these five no-fail email newsletter tips!

1. Don’t hit SEND more that twice a month.*

*(unless you’re running a unique promotion to a specialized list of subscribers).

I recently mailed out a survey to my readers that ultimately revealed evidence CONTRARY to what many of the web experts will tell you. The findings? Most people prefer ONE or TWO mailings per month - no more, no less. Do you like getting slammed with junkmail every day? Well, neither do your subscribers!

2. DO include free downloadable e-books and tutorials.

Your e-book should take 5 hours, NOT 5 days, to write. Give subscribers a small taste of what’s to come, with a handy how-to or list of free resources. You want to make people hungry for what you can offer, so that one day when you reveal the ultimate marketing guide, folks will say, “Damn she’s good” and they’ll buy from you!

3. Send a survey!

People love to express their opinion, and it makes sense that if you know exactly what your readers want more of, you’ll be able to give it to them. Even if just 30% of your readers fill out the survey, you’ve still got a solid representation of your target market’s biggest wants. This information will drastically improve your open rate!

4. Try out fun themes.

Entrepreneurs are real, live people just like you. That’s why they respond favorably to those little things in your newsletter that reveal your warmth, humanity and sense of fun. Special occasions are all something we can relate to. Add a holiday or seasonal touch with a few brief references in the copy and headlines; sprinkle with tasteful themed graphics.

5. Work on that subjectline.

Give your email subscribers a taste of what’s to come, and they’re more likely to open and read your message. Think about all the other emails from competing marketers that are landing in their mailbox. What can you say in your headlines that will entice them better than the next person? Don’t be afraid to experiment with different tactics, analyze the results and modify your strategy accordingly.

Okay, feeling a little more confident about how you can “beef up” your newsletter to build a loyal following and fan club? Great. Now let’s get going on those improvements in time for your next release date!

Internet Basics: Email is Like Cross-Pollination by Bees

Posted by admin in Uncategorized

Ever wonder how flowers get fertilized without being able to move around? Some flowers can only be fertilized by pollen from another flower. This process is called cross-pollination. Amazingly, these flowers get the pollen they need from other flowers without having to move an inch. How? Bees bring the pollen.

The bees crawl around in one flower and get covered with that flower’s pollen. Then the bees fly to other flowers and crawl around in them, leaving behind the pollen, fertilizing the other flowers in the process.

The one flower “sends” the pollen. The other receives the pollen. Neither moves anywhere.

That’s what email is like.

One person sends something (a message) and the other person receives it, while neither person had to move at all. In the case of email, the thing that’s sent is carried by a specific part of the Internet that delivers email messages.

But email is slightly different than the bee example in that the message doesn’t go directly from one person to the other. Instead, it stops in the middle at a server, which is just a computer hooked up to the Internet. The message waits there until the other person is ready to receive it. So it’s as if the bee gets the pollen, then waits by the lily pond until the second flower says it’s ready for the pollen.

Another difference is that unlike with the bees, using email doesn’t lead to getting fertilized - but of course that depends on what type of emails you’re sending.

And that’s why email is like cross-pollination by bees.

The Big House in Erie (1973) a Poem (In Spanish and English: NOW!)

Posted by admin in Artistry

I was invited to my boss’ house

I was young so young back then,

Perhaps twenty-five; l lived in Erie,

Pennsylvania, 1973

I hung around with his nephews

And when I saw his big house, it

Somewhat startled me: made of:

Red-brick, smoothly mortared

In-between: a few chimneys on

Each side of the house, Victorian;

It was a big, a huge housewindows

Everywhere: all around, up, down;

To a poor kid like me, my eyes

Were mortified, they were shaken:

(Hands fidgeting, legs weakening)

I had to catch my breath.

When I walked inside, my boss was

Surprise, yet greeted me well, cheerful

I think he noticed I felt a bit

Uncomfortable (I was brought up

In an extended family where two bedrooms

Fitted four families); so, I smiled the best

I could, looking about the house

It was to me: Buckingham Palace.

When I was fifty-five

Years old, yes, a quarter century plus, had

Passed, I owned several big houses, one

Bigger than his;

And never did I once forget that big house,

In Erie.

Note from the Author: While locked out of my house today, sitting in my car, in my garage, having two hours to throw to the wind until I have to pick up my wife, this big old house in Erie come to mind ((9:10 PM)) 2/23/2006. #1244

IN SPANISH

Translated by: Nancy Pealoza

La casa grande en Erie (1973)

Me invitaron a la casa de mi jefe

Entonces yo era muy joven,

Quizs veinticinco; yo viva en Erie,

Pensilvania, 1973

Deje pasar el tiempo con sus sobrinos

Y cuando vi su gran casa, esto

Un tanto me asust: hecho de:

Ladrillo-Rojo, suavemente enfoscado

Entre: algunas chimeneas en

Cada lado de la casa, Victoriana;

Esta era una grande, una enorme casa-ventanas

Por todas partes: todo alrededor, arriba, abajo;

Incmodo (yo fui educado

En una familia amplia donde dos dormitorios

Empotraban cuatro familias); As pues, Sonre lo mejor

Que pude, mirando la casa

Esto era para m: el Palacio De Buckingham.

Cuando yo tuve cincuenta y cinco

Aos de edad, s, un cuarto de siglo ms, haba

Pasado, yo fui dueo de varias casas enormes, uno

Ms grande que el de él;

Y nunca jams olvidé esa casa grande,
